Zines are Cool…I Kinda Want to Make One

The only time I ever made zines was in college, not for fun but for actual assignments. They were fun to make, and I remember at that moment thinking how I’d like to make more on my own. Then I graduated, started my first Art Job, and forgot all about it.

Thankfully, the YouTube algorithm recently suggested a “Zine Process” video, and that spark got lit again! Immediately, I was like “OH WHAT COOL THEMES SHOULD I DO?”, “COLOR OR BLACK & WHITE?”, and “OMG! WHAT ABOUT A ZINE ALL ABOUT MY PUPPY SOPHIE?”. Outsourcing merch right now is a bit difficult given the tariffs in place, and with the economy being the way it is, shopping within the US is just as costly… I want to try to avoid buying or spending too much these days. So if I can make something by hand at home, that would be ideal. The zines I want to start with will be cute, small, and crafty so that I can get warmed up with the process.

Do you like zines? Ever heard of them? What are some themes you’ve seen or want to see? If you have made zines before, I would love to hear from you and any advice you have. By all means, please share the ones you’ve made or collected. Also, if anyone knows of a small local business that can help with the zine-making process, please let me know!

As always, I wish you all well and hope good things come your way! Stay safe and till next time!

I wouldn’t mine making a zine about my journal and scrapbook spreads…
